Tips

Cancun is custom made from water sports, basking in the sun and relaxation, the beaches are all powdery and immaculately white. So fine is the sand it doesn`t retain the heat of the sun - you may walk bare footed without burning your feet.

As far as gay beaches "Playa Delfines" gets lots of gay crowds specially on weekends. (right between the Hilton and "El Pueblito" hotels)

But if you`re seeking culture and history, you`ll find it in the outlying areas. Among the best excursions we recommend the following:

Chichen Itza is probably the most important mayan city and Mexico`s most famous archeological site. The Pyramid of Kukulkan, The Temple of the Warriors, The Observatoty and The Sacred Cenote are all found here. It`s a full day`s trip, but worth the time. Bring your camera or camcorder!.

Xcaret (pronounced "edge-ka-ret") is an eco-archeological park an hour`s distance from Cancun. Air-condicioned motor coaches will pick you from a central point in town and return you to the hotel. Xcaret incorporates a sacred mayan ceremonial center, a museum, botanical gardens, an aquarium and much more. Bring swimming trunks because at Xcaret you can explode underground rivers, swim along with dolphins, or dive in natural crystal pools.

Playa del Carmen
It's a small town 45 minutes south of Cancun with beautiful beaches, nice restaurants and great shopping along the 5th avenue. A gay nudist beach is 40 minutes walking to north from CocoBay resort. Another gay-friendly beach is "Mamitas" (calle 26 and the sea).

Restaurants in Cancun
We highly recommend the new "CLUB SANDWICH CAFÉ" a canadian mexican owned and operated, gay friendly cafeteria with a big selection of sandwiches, salads, pastas and some canadian plates at very reasonable prices. It is open tuesdays to sundays from noon till midnight. It is located down below KARAMBA on Tulum Avenue.

Park Bistro with an International Contemporary Menu. A casual place with a European flavor and a Caribbean twist. Prices are ver reasonable and it's just two blocks from Karamba on Alcatraces street on the west side of the famous Palapa's Park.
